Connection Between SIBO & Histamine Intolerance
Histamine issues start with the gut. When we're talking about the gut, we're mainly talking about the small intestines, where lots of the magic happens including where we absorb nutrients and where we produce different enzymes like DAO, which plays a big role in histamine based issues.
So how does this chain of events begin?
Eating a highly processed diet, eating too many high histamine foods, in addition to consuming antibiotics and other medications alter the gut microbiome in the stomach. Combine this with being overly stressed, not chewing food or eating when in the sympathetic state and it's the perfect recipe to start to set off a lot of inflammation.
Over time this leads to decreased stomach acid which impairs our guts ability to absorb nutrients like zinc and vitamin B12. This also slows down gallbladder function by causing "biliary sludge". Think of your bile as liquid gold for your digestion and your ability to absorb fat soluble vitamins like A, D, E and K.
Now your overall gut motility has slowed down in the small intestine causing bloating, distention, constipation an/or diarrhea. This is because bacteria is growing there that shouldn't be and/or you likely have parasites. You may have a poor appetite and feel "full" after only a few bites of food due to severe bloating.
The small intestines is one of the main places we make DAO, one of the vital enzymes to break down dietary histamine in the body. This causes a build up of histamine resulting in symptoms.
Now your liver is overwhelmed with histamine and likely inability to timely remove waste, aka poop so your toxic load is building up daily.
This is all compounded by encountering other environmental toxins that also break down the gut barrier like mold, parasites, heavy metals...etc.
