The 4 R's for Healing Your Gut!

So you took antibiotics & are now left to figure out how to heal your gut?

Use this cheat sheet to organize your protocol

1. Remove-> Elimination diet is key. Eliminate the common offenders including gluten, dairy, soy, canola oil, cottonseed oil, potentially eggs. Low FODMAP may also be needed if you experience excess gas/bloating.
Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) may be needed if going low FODMAP isn't enough to reduce symptoms. SCD is not for those with histamine intolerance. Those with histamine intolerance and/or MCAS can benefit from low histamine & low lecithin diet.

2. Replace-> Incorporate digestive enzymes since you're likely.not absorbing nutrients from food very well. Antimicrobials, Antifungals and/or antiparasitics may all be needed to address underlying dysbiosis & infections. These should be done in proper order, first addressing parasites, next yeast/fungus & lastly bacteria.

3. Repair-> Gut healing nutrients include collagen as its high in glycine which helps rebuild tissue in the digestive tract, Colostrum is extremely nutrient dense rich in fatty acids & probiotics, & butyrate feeds the gut lining & stops inflammation.

4. Re-inoculate-> Now it's time to add those health prebiotics & probiotics since we have addressed the dysbiosis & overgrowth. If you add in this step too early you can actually worsen the problem & cause uncomfortable symptoms of gas/bloating.

Depending on the severity of your symptoms, this can be 3 months or more to truly address all underlying root causes & doing it correctly.

By using the Organic Acid Test, we can look for overgrowths of bacteria, yeast, mold, in addition to how well you are detoxifying, amino acids/Vitamin levels, ketone fatty acid metabolism, mitochondrial function & much more! Getting a baseline is critical to know what we're dealing with, always tests, never guess!
