Top Remedies for Constipation
Do you suffer from constipation? How often should you be going?
What classifies constipation?
If you're not going at least 1x per day, you're constipated.
If you're relying on laxatives, magnesium citrate or enemas in order to clear your bowels, you're using a band-aid approach to your constipation.
If your BM are like hard rocks that are difficult to pass.
What are the consequences of prolonged constipation?
Reabsorption of toxins that your body is trying to get rid of. This is a big one and a big cause of why many people get sick. Poop is what your body doesn't need so it needs to get rid of it because it contains harmful toxins that can be continually absorbed into the bloodstream reeking havoc.
Poor hormone clearance, especially estrogen. One of the big ways our body's eliminate excess estrogens is by pooping so if you aren't going, this is going to be a big cause for your PMS, PCOS, Endometriosis or other estrogen dominant condition.
Severe brain fog. Those toxins that are getting reabsorbed are super toxic to our brain and is a big cause of brain fog. One of the immediate effects of clearing the bowels, specifically when someone does a coffee enema is they report feeling euphoria and mental clarity which can be explained through the gut/brain axis.
Other symptoms include weight gain, increased risk of cancer (specifically colon cancer), inflamed liver, acne/skin rashes, fatigue and SIBO.
So how do you fix it?
Drink 16oz water to start your day with sea salt and fresh lemon or lime to start digestion and stimulate bile.
Eat whole foods diet with moderate fiber. Don't fear fruit which has a high water content.
Add chia or flax seeds to smoothies. Always choose organic and keep whole flaxseeds in the fridge for freshness.
Don't overeat nuts and seeds which can slow down digestion and be hard to digest, especially if you have difficulty digesting fats.
Use digestive enzymes to ensure you're breaking down your food and giving your digestion a little help.
Using magnesium citrate can be helpful in the short term for relief, or magnesium oxide, but this isn't a long term strategy. Find out your root cause of constipation which can be parasites, poor fat digestion, mold toxicity, heavy metal toxicity...etc.
Castor oil packs are a serious game changer. Ideally you want to use them for a minimum of 3 consecutive days and can place them over the abdomen or more on top of the liver (right rib cage). To learn more about castor oil packs check out my Instagram video.
Coffee enemas can be pheromonal for immediate relief and for improving liver/gallbladder function. They help to purge the body of stagnant bile, gallstones and significantly reduce the overall toxic load of the body. To start try them 1x week, always use organic coffee and filtered water.
Abdominal massage and yoga can be very helpful to moving the lymphatic system and stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system. If you are the type of person that is super type A and always on the move, your body is not moving into the parasympathetic state enough which is a big unknown cause of constipation. Your body has to be in a relaxed, low stress state in order to detox and properly eliminate toxins so make sure you're engaging in practices to chill out!
Constipation can have so many different causes so don’t get discouraged if you try a couple of these strategies and it isn’t enough! Work with a practitioner to uncover what your causes are. No one should have to live with constipation!
